Cross Fire

It’s a good thing no one cares about the law anymore.

Because otherwise, someone might point out a contradiction between “no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States” and “The Rev. Rick Warren, author of the best-seller “The Purpose-Driven Life,” will spend an hour interviewing each candidate at his 20,000-member Saddleback mega-church in Southern California.”

Just what the authors of the Constitution were hoping for - a Christian minister to vet our candidates for us.

You know what? Forget the fact that this is a Christian rite of passage for our secular Presidential candidates to control our secular government. And forget the fact that such Christian or otherwise rites of passage are unconstitutional (and also wholly unnecessary).

What I am really tired of is gatekeepers and referees. We don’t need a journalist, a moderator or especially a Christian minister, each with their own agendas, asking the candidates questions. Just put McCain and Obama in a room, turn on the cameras and let them speak directly to each other, like real human beings, in a real one-on-one debate.

Then maybe, just maybe, I might be more interested in what either of them has to say.

In the meantime, I hope all of the good Christians in America continue to vote for good Christian candidates with good Christian values, because that really seems to be working out well for us.
