I just listend to your podcast and liked it very much. But… althought I agree with you in most aspects, this all sounds a little bit too optimistic to me. Of course the Telephone-Technician is guilty too, he’s part of the process of illegally monitoring people. But, you made it sound if just everybody in the hierarchical ladder had the opportunity to say no and stop the whole thing. But the poor guy would have lost his job and his income, and then someon else would have done it. So is it really worth the trouble for him?
The monster “hiarchy” can only be stopped if a mass of people stopps doing, what they’re doing, not just one. And for that, as you said, people need to be educated. They need to understand their role in the game, they need to understand that their actions have real consequences for people, in the US and Iraq and wherever else. I just hope a big mass of people WILL see their responsibility… because humans are just gregarious animals, this is all part of our nature (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment) and you and me are just the exeption… sigh

Last sentence: I wanted to say “… because MAYBE humans are just gregarious animals…”
